About SplitPro
SplitPro helps groups settle up quickly and fairly. Whether it’s a dinner with uneven orders, a weekend trip with shared groceries, or recurring roommate bills, SplitPro removes awkward math from the conversation.
What makes SplitPro different
- Per‑item precision: Assign items to specific people, split equally, or apportion by custom percentages.
- Fair tax & tip: We distribute tax and tip proportionally to each person’s pre‑tax subtotal, so heavier orders contribute more.
- Fees handled right: Service and other fixed fees can be split evenly or included in the proportional share.
- Share & archive: Export a CSV, print the summary, or generate a shareable link that encodes your exact inputs.
- Privacy‑first: Everything runs locally in your browser; we don’t store your data on a server.
How the math works (in plain English)
- Each person’s subtotal is calculated from their share of each item.
- We compute the group subtotal and apply your tax and tip rates to get total tax and tip.
- Tax and tip are then apportioned by weight — if your subtotal is 25% of the group, you cover ~25% of tax and tip.
- Fixed fees are split evenly (so nobody overpays for overhead).
- Your final total = subtotal + proportional tax + proportional tip + fees share.
Use cases
- Dinners where everyone orders differently (extras, drinks, desserts).
- Trips with mixed shared and personal expenses.
- Roommates splitting utilities with add‑ons (e.g., one person pays for an extra service).
Roadmap
- Optional per‑item tax and per‑item tip overrides.
- Currency selector and locale‑aware formatting.
- Dark mode and accessibility refinements.
- One‑click Venmo/Cash App message templates.

Why this exists
About this bill‑splitting tool
We built this to end awkward math at the table. Enter items, choose how to handle tax and tip, and get a fair split in seconds—no spreadsheets, no arguments, no guesswork.
What we value
- Clarity: transparent math you can verify from the receipt.
- Fairness: item‑level splits so people only pay for what they had.
- Privacy: we don’t ask for sign‑ups to use the calculator.
Who it’s for
Friends, roommates, teammates—anyone who wants clean, drama‑free splits. It also works for delivery orders, trips, and shared household expenses.

Behind the calculator
Design principles that shaped SplitPro
SplitPro was built for real life: messy receipts, uneven orders, and groups who don't want to fight about money. A few core ideas guide every feature.
Fairness without overcomplication
- Item‑level control. You can assign each item to one or more people instead of relying on rough “everybody pays the same” rules.
- One source of truth. Tax, tip, and fees are applied once, then distributed by a rule you choose.
- No hidden logic. The explanation text tells you exactly how each piece of the bill is handled.
Fast enough to use at the table
- Mobile‑first layout. The interface is simple enough to run on a small phone screen with one thumb.
- Minimal required fields. You only enter what matters: people, items, tax, tip, and any fixed fees.
- Share‑ready output. The final summary is formatted to paste directly into messages or group chats.
Respect for people and privacy
- No account required. You don't need to sign in, sync contacts, or upload receipts to use the tool.
- Local calculations. Math runs in your browser so you stay in control of your data.
- Plain‑language explanations. Instead of legalese, we aim to describe choices in clear, everyday language.
The goal is simple: make it easier for groups to stay generous and transparent with each other by giving them a tool they can trust.
Built for more than one type of user
Who SplitPro is especially helpful for
Anyone can use SplitPro, but some situations benefit a lot from a clear, shared calculation instead of quick estimates.
- Friends with different budgets. When some people are watching every dollar and others are more flexible, a neutral calculator helps keep the group aligned.
- Roommates and long-term housemates. Regular shared costs—utilities, internet, streaming, and supplies—are easier to manage with a consistent system.
- Trip organizers. People planning group travel can use SplitPro patterns to keep track of who covered which shared expense.
- Hosts and event planners. Anyone coordinating parties, showers, or celebrations can quickly run “what-if” scenarios for different contribution levels.
Underneath all of these cases is the same goal: help groups keep their relationships stronger than the receipts they're splitting.
Looking ahead
Ideas we consider as SplitPro continues to evolve
The core of SplitPro will always be a fast, transparent way to split real-world bills. Around that core, there are many directions we could grow.
- More guided templates. Scenario-based flows for roommates, trips, and events that prefill common choices.
- Optional save features. For people who want light history, the ability to store a few recent splits on their own device.
- Accessibility improvements. Even stronger support for screen readers, reduced motion preferences, and high-contrast themes.
- Localized guidance. Examples and tips tailored to different tipping norms, currencies, and cultural expectations.
Whatever we add, the goal stays the same: remove friction from money conversations without adding new stress or complexity.
More than just math
Why fairness is at the center of SplitPro's design
The same total bill can feel generous, neutral, or unfair depending on how it's divided. SplitPro is built to give groups a clearer fairness lens.
- Highlighting assumptions. By spelling out how tax, tip, and fees are treated, the tool makes hidden assumptions visible.
- Reducing guesswork. People can react to real numbers instead of vague impressions like “I think I paid more last time.”
- Supporting repeat patterns. When a group finds a rule that works, using it again helps build trust over time.
Fairness isn't about perfection; it's about giving everyone enough clarity to say “yes, this feels right” to the final split.
